Stay in the Home You Love — Safely and Comfortably
For many homeowners, the goal isn't to move — it's to stay. Whether you're managing a mobility challenge, recovering from an injury, planning ahead for aging in place, or modifying your home for a family member with specific needs, the right home modifications can make an enormous difference in how safely and independently you live day to day.
Ford Construction installs accessibility modifications for homeowners across Arkansas and North Texas. We handle ramps, roll-in showers, grab bars, widened doorways, low-threshold entries, and other practical changes that make your home safer and more functional — without making it look or feel institutional.
Every modification we install is planned around your specific situation. We'll talk through what you need, walk through your home, and put together a scope that addresses the right areas in a way that works for how you actually live.
Accessible Home Modifications We Handle
Here's what we install and build for homeowners who need accessibility improvements:
List of Services
-
Ramps and Entry Access
We build exterior ramps and modify entry points to make getting in and out of your home safe and manageable. Whether you need a front entry ramp, a side entry modification, or a garage access solution — we build it to hold up long term and fit the look of your home.
-
Roll-In and Low-Threshold Showers
Standard shower entries can be a significant fall risk. We convert existing showers and baths to roll-in or low-threshold designs that allow for safe, easy entry without the need to step over a barrier. We also install fold-down shower seats, handheld showerheads, and accessible shower controls.
-
Grab Bars
Strategically placed grab bars in bathrooms, showers, hallways, and stairways provide the support and stability that prevent falls. We install grab bars anchored properly into studs — not just drywall — so they hold up under real use.
-
Widened Doorways
Standard doorways are often too narrow for wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility equipment. We widen doorways throughout the home to accommodate the equipment you use, making it easier to move freely from room to room.
-
Accessible Door Hardware
Standard round doorknobs can be difficult to operate for homeowners with limited grip strength. We replace standard hardware with lever-style handles and other accessible options throughout the home.
-
Accessible Bathroom Modifications
Beyond roll-in showers and grab bars, we handle broader accessible bathroom renovations — raised toilet installations, comfort-height vanities, accessible layouts, and other changes that make the bathroom safer and easier to use independently.
-
Low-Threshold and No-Threshold Entries
Interior thresholds and transitions between floor surfaces can be trip hazards. We modify transitions and entry points throughout the home to create smoother, safer movement from room to room.
-
Exterior Access and Pathways
Safe access doesn't stop at the front door. We handle exterior modifications — pathway leveling, handrail installation, exterior lighting improvements, and other changes that make getting to and from your home safer.
-
Broader Home Modifications
Accessibility needs often go beyond a single modification. If you need a combination of changes throughout your home — or if accessible remodeling is part of a larger renovation — we can incorporate all of it into one coordinated project.
Experience With the VA Specially Adapted Housing Program
Ford Construction has experience working with homeowners who have used the VA's Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant program. We understand the types of modifications the program covers and have completed accessible bathroom conversions, ramp installations, roll-in showers, grab bar installations, widened doorways, and related work for qualifying veterans.
If you are a veteran exploring your SAH grant options, we are happy to discuss the types of modifications we have completed and how we can help. Please note that Ford Construction is an independent contractor — we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Questions About Accessible Remodeling?
Here are the questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Give us a call or send us a message — we're happy to help.
What types of accessible modifications does Ford Construction install?
We install ramps, roll-in and low-threshold showers, grab bars, widened doorways, accessible door hardware, raised toilets, comfort-height vanities, low-threshold and no-threshold entries, exterior pathway modifications, and other home modifications for homeowners who need accessibility improvements.
Can accessible modifications be incorporated into a larger renovation?
Yes. If you're already planning a bathroom remodel, a whole home renovation, or another project, we can incorporate accessibility modifications into the overall scope so everything is handled at once by one team.
Do you have experience with the VA Specially Adapted Housing program?
Yes. We have completed accessible bathroom conversions, ramp installations, roll-in showers, grab bar installations, and widened doorways for homeowners who have used the VA SAH grant program. Ford Construction is an independent contractor — we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Are grab bars installed into studs or just drywall?
We anchor grab bars properly into studs so they hold up under real, daily use. A grab bar that pulls out of drywall under load is a safety hazard — we don't cut corners on installation.
Can you widen doorways throughout the entire home?
Yes. We can widen doorways in any room — bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas — to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility equipment.
Do you offer financing?
Financing options are available for qualifying residential projects in Arkansas and Texas. Ask us about financing when you reach out and we'll walk you through how it works.
